Curtis Gilbert:
Curtis Gilbert became the head men's lacrosse coach at Berry College in September 2013. During his time, he has achieved a record of 90-65 and a conference record of 37-21. Gilbert has coached 64 All-SAA selections, several Academic Honor Roll achievers, along with two Offensive Players of the Year, one Defensive Player of the Year, and an Academic All-American. He also led the team to a regular-season title in 2015.
In the 2023 season, Berry College earned its second All-American, Nick English, who was named SAA Defensive Player of the Year and a Scholar All-American, joining past Scholar All-Americans like Quentin Johnson and Cory Hall. Gilbert received the SAA Coach of the Year award in 2018 and coached in the USILA/Nike North-South game. The team showed strong performance in the SAA, achieving eight wins in the 2024 season, the highest since 2019.
Before Berry, Gilbert coached at New England College, leading the team to its first NAC Championship and an NCAA tournament berth. He had a record of 59-49 at NEC. Previously, Gilbert was an assistant coach at Denison University, Washington College, and Whittier College. He holds a master's degree in management and strategic leadership from NEC.
Koby McMahon:
Koby McMahon became the Assistant Coach for the Berry College Men’s Lacrosse program in 2023. He previously worked at Hood College in Frederick, MD, as the Defensive Coordinator for three seasons, focusing on the defense and goalies. McMahon contributed to an eight-win season in 2023 and helped coach a player who earned the SAA Defensive Player of the Year honor. In 2024, the team reached the SAA semi-finals and had six All-SAA players.
During McMahon’s time at Hood College, the team achieved several milestones, including a 10. 44 goals against average in 2020, ranking fourth in the conference. The team was also first in groundballs per game. They had notable accomplishments in 2021 and 2022, ranking well in various defensive statistics in the conference.
Before working at Hood, McMahon played as a goalie and served as a captain at Ferrum College from 2016 to 2019. He holds several program records and received Academic Conference Honors throughout his college career. McMahon graduated with a 4. 0 GPA and an MBA from Hood College, and he is certified in lacrosse coaching and weightlifting. He is originally from Annapolis, MD, but currently lives in Rome, Georgia.
Ken Byers:
Coach Byers helped develop the Berry College lacrosse program from its early days into a competitive team, reaching the Conference Championship twice in four years. He recently took a group of Berry College student-athletes on a trip to the European Alps to compete against national teams from Austria and Slovakia.
Before joining Berry, Byers created a successful MCLA program at Kennesaw State University, achieving a 61-28 record and winning SELC Coach of the Year twice. He also started the Etowah High School program, leading it to a 45-22 record. As a player/coach for the Atlanta Lacrosse Club, he gained 307 wins.
Byers played for Suffolk Community College and Kutztown State and is actively involved in competitive lacrosse, coaching, and officiating. He served over 31 years with the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department and was inducted into the Georgia Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2007.
Mike Voso:
Mike Voso has returned to the Berry College Men’s Lacrosse program as a volunteer coach. He was a founding member of the program in 2011 and has 15 years of coaching experience at various levels. After moving back to Rome in 2020, he volunteered at the Darlington School and previously led the Emory Club Lacrosse program in Atlanta. Voso played defense for Berry College, winning the 2013 SAA Regular Season Championship before an injury ended his playing career. He graduated from Berry in 2014 with a degree in Communication and is now the Director of Packaging at a national company.
